This issue of GAI+LISVA Magazine features the woman behind the bookazine HÅNDVÆRK, Rigetta Klint. Rigetta fills the role of designer, editor and photographer on the bookazine which is published as physical copy and supplemented by an online platform.
Rigetta started HÅNDVÆRK in 2019 after having worked with craftsmanship, photography, clothing and interior design and communication for many years. Rigetta has always been interested in quality and in products that are consumed slowly:
“Once, it was primarily for aesthetic reasons. Today, it is also because I, like many others, have realised that we need to slow down, that it is essential we do so if we want our planet to live on in even moderately recognisable form.”
We are inspired by Rigetta and the way she promotes and works with craftsmanship. We share her views and values when it comes to responsible manufacturing and how to define durable design. Rigetta says of GAI+LISVA:
“I’ve had my eye on you for several years because I share your aesthetic, which to my mind is aesthetically sustainable, and because I appreciate the fact that you are continuously developing and learning, adopting a more responsible attitude to manufacturing, also in your choice of materials.”
How do we define good craftsmanship?
To Rigetta, good craftsmanship is when skills and knowledge merge, creating the best possible result. Craftsmanship involves mastering a material:
”Craftsmanship is interesting in itself, but also as a prerequisite for products where designers and architects have been involved in laying the foundations for industrial productions.”
About HÅNDVÆRK
HÅNDVÆRK is a Danish bookazine which is published twice a year. Every issue of HÅNDVÆRK takes a deep dive into a theme, which can be either broad or more specific, by means of photographs, interviews and portraits. HÅNDVÆRK focuses on craftsmanship as a skill, but also as a prerequisite for architecture, food, art, interior design and fashion. HÅNDVÆRK uses Danish and Scandinavian craftsmanship and design as a jumping-off point, and Rigetta shines the spotlight on highly skilled people who share their knowledge.
HÅNDVÆRK is sold as physical copy by select distributors and in HÅNDVÆRK’s own webshop.

HOPE FOR HÅNDVÆRK
The philosophy behind HÅNDVÆRK is the belief that the road to more responsible manufacturing and practices that are viable in the long term is understanding materials and manufacturing methods. The bookazine is all about craftsmanship and the craftsman in a current context, both those who work on their own projects and those who contribute their knowledge and skills to other people’s projects. When Rigetta interviews people for her articles, she delves into the heritage and foundations of a given craft, but also looks at what the future might hold for that craft.
Necessity is part of what drives Rigetta. Necessity and the belief that it is possible to change consumer behaviour by focusing on craftsmanship in general. Rigetta hopes that HÅNDVÆRK can help enlighten the reader about how and why we as consumers should be more responsible in our choice of products.
Rigetta highlights a quote from the designer Paul Smith: “’You can find inspiration in everything. If you can’t, then you’re not looking properly,’ and I agree wholeheartedly. Leaving yourself open to inspiration is a way of life.”
