"BALLET IS ART"

VICTORIA BELL

We are inspired by strong women and their stories. Ballet dancer and our ambassador, Victoria Bell, tells us about ballet, dreams for the future and how to be focused.

Victoria is a ballet dancer at The Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, one of the world's best renowned ballet-companies. She was born in Aarhus, Denmark, and it was here her interest in ballet was sparked.

"When I was 4 years old, my mum took me to the theatre to watch Swan Lake, and I was completely spellbound by the dancers. After the show, I looked up at my mum, and said: Mum, I want to do that, too.”

THE ROYAL DANISH THEATRE'S BALLET SCHOOL

Victoria began her ballet training and was admitted to The Royal Danish Theatre’s Ballet School in Aarhus. As a 12-year-old, Victoria and her family moved to Copenhagen, where Victoria pursued her ballet career at The Royal Danish Theatre.

In 2019 she became a royal ballet dancer. For Victoria, ballet is a sanctuary, but also hard work that requires balance. The balance consists of taking care of her body, getting a good night’s sleep, and writing down the intentions and goals for the day.

“I chose this career path when I was very little, and that requires you to be extremely determined.”

In short, ballet is art

When we ask Victoria, what is special about ballet, she replies: "It is ballet. In short, ballet is art."

Victoria describes herself as curious and determined. “I am curious to continue to learn, especially about my body, that is my ‘tool.’ Actually, I think that curiosity is what is driving me forward most of the time.” The ballet career has not happened by itself, and Victoria has therefore always been very determined. “I chose this career path when I was very little, and that requires you to be extremely determined.”

THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF DENMARK

One of Victoria’s favourite places in Copenhagen is The National Gallery of Denmark. The things that attract Victoria about this place, is the simple and aesthetic outline, the art, and the food. Especially food means a lot to Victoria. She enjoys good food and wine in the company of her friends on her days off.
